Triphala is a powdered mixture of the fruits of three medicinal plants namely amla, hirda and behda. It is one of the best chemicals in Ayurveda.

For the last 5000 years, the Ayurvedic system of medicine has been using many plants for their medicinal and health-promoting properties, according to Vedic scriptures. An ancient Ayurvedic text called “Sharangadhar Samhita” mentions the famous polyherbal (composed of more than one plant) concoctions and a text called “Charak Samhita” specifically mentions the health benefits of Triphala.

What exactly is ?
Triphala means three fruits. It consists of amla (Emblica officinalis), bibhitaki or baheda or behda (Terminalia bellerica) and haritaki or hard or hirda (Terminalia shebula) which is actually reflected in the name Triphala. “Triphala” (tri = three and phalla = fruit) In Ayurveda, it is mainly sought for its “rasayana” properties, i.e. the compound is very effective in maintaining the health and fitness of the body and prevents disease.

Amla (Emblica officinalis)
Amla, one of the most common fruits found all over the country, is also known as Indian Gooseberry. Amla is a fruit rich in fiber, antioxidants, minerals and one of the richest sources of vitamin C in the world. It is commonly used for good gastrointestinal health, prevention of constipation, hair problems, stomach related and infection fighting and as an anti-aging agent.

Behda 
This plant is commonly found in the Indian subcontinent. This fruit is known in the Ayurveda system of medicine as antipyretic, antioxidant, hepatoprotective (good for liver), respiratory problems and antidiabetic. As per Ayurveda, Baheda contains many rich biological compounds viz. Glucoside, tannin, gallic acid, ethyl gallate etc. Together, these compounds are beneficial for maximum health benefits of baheda.

Hard/gum (Terminalia chebula)
Herb is the most important plant known to Ayurveda. Its health benefits include antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging, making it an excellent wound healer. Its benefits in restoring and maintaining the normal function of liver, stomach, heart and gall bladder are well known in Ayurveda. In fact the gum has been called the “King of Medicines”.

Triphala benefits and consumption

Beneficial on weakness
It is a panacea for a physically weak person. Consuming it improves memory. Weakness decreases. Consuming triphala with harda, behda, amla, ghee and sugar is very beneficial.

Increases immunity
Consumption of triphala increases immunity. But for this it is necessary to regularize the consumption of it .

Effective on high blood pressure
Consuming triphala benefits heart disease, diabetes and high blood pressure. If you are worried about diabetes and high blood pressure levels, mix 3-4 grams of its powder with milk and consume it every night before going to bed. You will surely get relief.

Beneficial on constipation
One of the important properties of Triphala Churna is that it relieves constipation. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, eating and drinking times are not regular, stress is constant. Therefore, most of the people are troubled by constipation. Those suffering from this problem should add its powder in warm water and take it regularly.

Relief from eye disorders
Washing the eyes with its powder in water cures eye problems. To reduce cataracts, eye inflammation, other defects, add 1 teaspoon of triphala powder and 5 grams of honey to 10 grams of cow ghee and consume it.

Effective in skin diseases
It is effective in problems like itching, inflammation, boils. For this, taking 6-8 grams of triphala powder in the morning and evening is beneficial. Soak one spoon of triphala powder in one glass of water for 2-3 hours. After that, bathe in that water. It will help in curing mouth disorders.

On the headache
Remove the peels of triphala, turmeric, bitter gourd and boil in water. Strain this water and drink it morning and evening with jaggery or sugar. Headache will be relieved.
