Nagarmotha ( Cypriol ) is a single-leaved dwarf belonging to the Cyperaceae family and its scientific name is Cyperus scariosus. In India, this plant can be seen growing in large numbers in the forests of Madhya Pradesh.

Nagarmothya bushes in wetlands 2-3 m. grows tall. The trunk is green, triangular and soft and the leaves are arranged in a circle at the upper end. Leaves 10-15 cm. long and 1 cm. They are wide and have flowers in their armpits. The inflorescence consists of many small flowers. The flower structure is similar to that of a single-flowered grass. The fruit is one-seeded.

Nagarmothya roots fetch a good price in the market. The roots are aromatic and are used in perfumes, aromatherapy and cosmetics. Oil is obtained from the trunk of Nagarmothya. Cypressin is the main ingredient in this oil. Applying this oil on the painful area reduces the pain. Leaves are analgesic.
