Calotropis Gigantea or Ruchki is a plant. Cotton plant is found in countries like India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan etc.
Biological structure of Rui
It is a poisonous Ayurvedic herb (shrub). Classical name – (Calotropis Procera). After cutting the leaf of this shrub, a milky sticky substance (cheek) comes out of it. The bunches of flowers of these trees look charming. Due to this, there is constant movement of weevils, insects and butterflies near it.
Medicinal uses of Rui
Ayurveda prescribes several types of salt rubs to treat hemorrhoids, warts, hypertrophy, thick skin. By burning five parts of various plants like Aghada, Satu, Banana Khunt, Cactus, Ruia and keeping them soaked in water, the water can be dried and salt can be prepared. When a thorn/fine piece of glass is broken in the leg, when the thorn is applied, the place does not ripen and the thorn quickly and comes out automatically. As Calotropis gigantea is a poisonous plant, no part of it can be taken orally.
Wraps of its leaves wrapped in cow ghee or castor oil and tied to the chest / back and heated on a pan helps to clear the lungs. It is an effective remedy for sweating or cough … Even those with HRCT score 20/25 have reduced patches.
Type of Calotropis Gigantea
There are two types of this tree. One purple flower cotton and another white flower cotton. Purple flower cotton is found everywhere. White flower cotton is rarely found. The white flower cotton plant is also known as ‘Mandar’. It is an old belief that the shape of Ganesha is formed at the root of mandar tree which is more than 12 years old.
Cotton is also called Calotropis gigantea in Hindi-Marathi. But cotton has nothing to do with Calotropis gigantea.
It is the favorite tree of Lord Hanuman. Garland of cotton flowers is offered to Hanuman. It is the sacred tree of Shravan Nakshatra.
